Avalon Student Housing

The owners of Avalon Student Housing came to me with one request: make a site that puts them in direct contact with their prospective renters.

So, I thought about their market: 20-something, computer savvy college students. I wanted to make the most important information quickly accessible, and I wanted to harness the power of online networking communities.

Thus, I helped the owners network the site on Facebook, Flickr, and Craigslist. Avalon has had a steady stream of applicants ever since.

What I like about this site

This is the first site with a standards-first approach. I feel that the markup is clean, the page weights light, and the content appropriate for the audience of college students.

What I would change

This site showed me that my strength is not visual design. The clients are happy with how the site looks, so ultimately I am as well. But next time I would like to work with a visual designer to bring the design up to par with the markup.
